Definition of a Personality Disorder - mental disorder that is marked by deeply ingrained and lasting patterns of inflexible, maladaptive, or antisocial behaviour ; a class of mental disorders characterized by rigid and on-going patterns of feeling, thinking, and behavior.

People with personality disorders have different ways of thinking and behavior that prevent them from fitting in with society. A person affected with a personality disorder often fails to see that his or her personality is unusual or different. A great number of people have strong personalities but it is not the same as a personality disorder. People with personality disorders are inflexible and unable to adapt, they often dislike any changes in their lives too. Personality disorders tend to develop in adolescence and early adulthood but may not be diagnosed until adult life. The cause of most of these disorders is unknown, but they are probably due to a combination of genetic influences and bad experiences in childhood
